TOP TIERMAMC is arguably the most coveted non-AIIMS MBBS seat in India. JIPMER ranks nationally as #2 most competitive — ahead of every AIIMS campus except Delhi. Ranks 50–300 are where the real strategic decisions happen.
AIIMS Campuses + Legacy State Colleges
GREAT TIERKEM Mumbai is one of India’s largest and oldest teaching hospitals — an exceptional outcome at ~868. Both MMC Chennai and KEM Mumbai close higher in Round 2 (1,296 and 1,126 respectively) — students who missed Round 1 can still get these.

GOOD TIERThe AIIMS brand spans from rank 392 (Jodhpur) to 1,997 (Rajkot) — a 5× range. Infrastructure varies considerably: Jodhpur, Rishikesh, and Bhubaneswar are more developed; Rajkot is newer.
Round 2 and stray vacancy rounds open many more government seats in this range. This is where thorough preference filling pays off most — filling 200 colleges vs 20 can make all the difference.

Lower rank = more competitive. Non-Delhi campuses shown on scale 0–2,000. AIIMS Delhi (rank 48) is uniquely off-scale.
Rank 5,000+: State Quota Is Your Primary Route
Beyond roughly AIR 5,000 in the General category, AIQ becomes limited. But state quota — 85% of all government seats — runs on a completely separate domicile-based merit list.
A rank too high for AIQ in Maharashtra may still get you GMC Nagpur or GMC Aurangabad via Maharashtra state counselling. Never skip state counselling registration because your AIQ rank looks weak.

Missing Round 1 registration = missing Round 1. No catch-up. Register even if you haven’t decided preferences yet.
Students who fill 200 colleges vs 20 can have dramatically different outcomes at the same rank. More choices only help — the system picks your best match.
Freeze = keep and exit. Float = try for better, keep current if not. Upgrade = try for better, lose current if not. Withdraw = exit MCC for state quota.
State quotas run on their own schedule. Missing state registration while focused on MCC is a common, irreversible mistake.
