ICMR JRF

The ICMR JRF Examination is a national-level test to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for Junior Research Fellowships. It serves as the initial step for admission into Ph.D./ research programmes with the support of the ICMR and is held annually, typically in July.

Admission Info
Eligibility: Candidates must possess a postgraduate degree in basic science or a professional course.

Fellowships Offered:

  • Total: 150 fellowships
  • Life Sciences: 120 fellowships (e.g. microbiology, genetics, pharmacology, etc.)
  • Social Sciences: 30 fellowships (e.g. psychology, sociology, statistics, etc.)
Ph.D. Admission: Selected candidates can enroll in Ph.D. programs at UGC/MCI-recognized universities, but the fellowship itself is independent of any specific Ph.D. program.

Additional Selection: 100 more candidates may be considered for ICMR-funded research schemes with Ph.D. enrollment permitted during the project.

Fellowship Duration & Validity:

  • Initial validity: 6 months for fellowship placement
  • Result validity: 2 years for ICMR project placement
Stipend & Benefits: JRF: 25,000/month; SRF: 28,000/month; Plus HRA and 20,000 annual contingency grant.

Continuation: Renewal is subject to satisfactory annual performance review.
