The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level examination jointly conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). GATE assesses candidates' comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate engineering, science and related subjects. The scores are used for admission to postgraduate programmes such as M.Tech/M.E. and PhD at IITs, NITs, IISc and other institutes, and are also accepted by many public sector undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment. Conducted once a year in computer-based online mode, GATE covers multiple subject papers. It is one of the most important exams for engineering graduates. This page covers complete GATE details – eligibility, exam pattern, important dates, application process and preparation tips.
