About GATE

GATE is the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, conducted jointly by the IITs and IISc for admission to M.Tech/PhD programmes and used by many PSUs for recruitment.

GATE Eligibility

GATE Selection Process

• Appear for GATE and obtain a score and rank.
• For admission: apply to institutes and attend counselling/interview as required.
• For PSUs: shortlisting based on GATE score, followed by further rounds.
• Final selection as per the institute or organisation.

How to Apply for GATE

1. Visit gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
2. Register on the GOAPS portal.
3. Fill the application form.
4. Upload photograph, signature and documents.
5. Pay the fee online.
6. Submit and print the confirmation.

How to Prepare for GATE

• Master your core engineering/science subjects.
• Practise previous years' GATE papers.
• Work on general aptitude and numerical ability.
• Take mock tests and revise systematically.
