To be or not to be: Girl
“India now accounts for termination of some 10 million female foetuses over the past 20 years.”
The UN’s universal declaration on Human Rights says: ‘ All human beings are born free and equal in Dignity and Rights….” Sounds Great!!!! But when we take insights into the ground realities, we will discover the all- pervasive presence of discrimination that divide the human populace in the name of religion, caste, creed etc… and within that broad division the most pathetic line is drawn in the name of gender difference between male and female….
The most important gift anyone can give a girl is a belief in her own power as an individual, her value without reference to gender, her respect as a person with potential.
Save the girl child today for a better tomorrow

Many of you must be thinking how we can at all help in solving this issue. after all, we all belong to educated families and none of us would have actually faced this “girls are a burden” situation. Our families treat us equal to boys, so does our education system.
Apart from spreading the word and educating people about saving the girl child, we can actually prove that girls are not a burden. Females are doing way better than their male counterparts in many fields. lets make the picture equally bright closer home. Indian girls need to show they can excel in everything, at times better than the boys.
It is not a question of showing their might but proving they are not weak.
It is a great thing that we are bringing up this issue here. Take it ahead. Save the girl child.

nuthing much can be done unless we are ready to change our age old traditions..
people get education, but when it comes to situation to taking action we think as per our system and ignore our educated thoughts..

totally agree with the fact that there is need to save girl ,as we can all see the stats male to female ratio in india….its just matter of making people understand that girls are equal to boys….educated families understand this fact but the ultimate threat is to make those people understand that girls aare no longer a burden ,as anwesha said…
today she is working……..she is focusing on her work n giving time o her family…..prob. i would say that she is 2 steps ahead of male’s todays….
so need of hour is to make that section of people understand that why it is a need now….

India is a good country for women to thrive. I think urban India is pretty much there already, awareness now has to increase in rural India. Very nicely put by the author

i cant understand why you people saying gals are equal to boys in every sense. they are not bold enough, not capable for physical work. Nature itself created the difference.. agar inni equal he hote to ye topic chalane ke need he nai padti…
now about the social status. on this i agree that its not good to treat them inferior.. but also you cant say that they are equal to us.

what are u thalkin abt dude??…….jst give one reason or one field of interest where girls hav nt excelled with the same or even better potential than boys………..actually girls are far more stronger than boys…………its just a psychological myth we have started to believe in.

@anand
I dont understand wat anand exactly meant by saying that girls are not bold enough…….
as a student of psychologist i would like to tell 2- 3 things here.. gals are emotionally stronger that of men…. they are better able to compehend emotions than that of men…. maturity level of gals is much higher than that of men…. boys can be easily persuaded than girls…. Yes!!! nature has created a difference….. there are 2 things that guide our behavior- one, heredity and second is environment….its been proved that girls being inferior to men is due to environmental, cultural factors and never due to heredity or biological factors….. All these things are proved by renowned psychologists of the world….
the need for this topic is never to gain sympathy for gals…. but its actually very misfortune for all of us as human being that we tend to discriminate against girls who are otherwise in no way inferior to men ( Yes! I agree physically they are but nature is very kind and has always balance everything as there are other things which are biologically not possible for men to even think of)
Its high time now to understand that WOMEN ARE NOT INFERIOR TO MEN… first, remove this stereotypical attitude……..

Well,I dont know if you all aware of this fact that in 2009 the Male: Female ratio AT BIRTH in India was 1000:1009.
Also, due to some biological differences it is definitely a conclusion that Woman atmost can walk, run and jog shoulder to shoulder with men. Its highly unlikely for them to pass except some exceptions, rest assured they have it in them to excel like men.
But if it were so true them why did the followers of Paganism failed???..or more precisely, why did Pagan System fail??..

yeh they are stronger thats y they start crying on little little things.. they are stronger thats y they cant work for long time. they are stronger thats y they always need someones support in doing most of the work. yar bhai kon se duniya me reh raha hai tu?
aapne college ke koi bhi ladki ka naam bata (aapni gf ko mat include karna bas) jis ka example de ke you can say that girls are equal to boys.
aapna bag to aapne bf ko pakda dete hai, line me lagna hota hai to they start searching for their ladke frns.. recharge karana hota hai to they ask boys to do that…. yar khud ek kaam nai hota and you say boys are equal to gals..
even boys aapna khud ka kaam karte hai or un ke gf ka kaam bhi karte hai..

“nature has created a difference…” now how can you challenge Nature? jo difference hai vo hai..

People always pray for a BOY
Not for a GIRL
Blessings of elders are for MALE
Not for FEMALE
But in need of wealth
People pray to Ma LAXMI
For success in education
People pray to Ma SARASWATI
For removal of tension
People pray to Ma AMBAJI
And to escape from the devil
People pray to Ma KALI
Now tell me, why do people hesitate to have a FEMALE in the family,
While those whom they pray to during trouble, are FEMALES?
SAVE THE GIRL CHILD!!!
