BP plans for life after Deepwater
This week is likely to see the oil giant announce $5bn profits in three months that has seen its reputation and finances crippled, its name used as a political football, and its CEO set to resign.
Three months since the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon rig that killed 11 men, BP has clung on to existence, helped by the fact that it now appears to have capped the leaking well at last. But serious threats remain. Most importantly for shareholders, the question is now whether the wounded oil giant can continue to do business in the US? What will a penitent and reformed BP of the future look like? And how can the industry defend itself against restrictions on getting the very stuff out of the ground that it relies on? More »
Paperless Office: A Reality or Dream?
There has been buzz of the paperless office for some time now. Although it sounds nice in theory, is it actually possible?
Did you know that, “the typical U.S. office worker uses more than 10,000 sheets of paper per year, which is about 2 cases of paper per employee. With an average price of $40 for a case of standard copy paper, this is an $80 annual cost per employee,”–according to a study conducted by California’s Alameda County.
Was it all due to negligence???
An electronics technician aboard the ill-fated oil rig Deepwater Horizon told an investigative panel on Friday that an alarm system was partially shut down on the day the rig exploded. Mike Williams, who worked for rig owner Transocean Ltd., said a three-way alarm system to warn of fire, explosive gas and toxic gas was turned on to monitor conditions, but its sound and light alarms had been disabled. He testified he knew the alarm settings from a computer monitor into which it fed. He said in 2009 he asked about the settings and was told the company “didn’t want people looking up at 3 a.m. to a false alarm.”
Things are not that bad
Things are not that bad!!! Cheer UP!!!
This might seem a little hypocritical coming from someone who has so far only highlighted all that is going wrong and need to be looked into! Its just that here are a few things that we sub consciously are thankful for in our country but seldom feel grateful for (including me I suppose!). More »
